As soon as Zou Yue shouted, both Xia Rou and Wei Qi stopped to look at her.
“Uhh… Senior…” Zou Yue was a little hesitant. “I think you could… look a little more fierceful, because you should be very angry at this point…”
“Oh,” Wei Qi smiled. “Sorry…”
He said, “I know. But facing such a cute girl, I couldn’t bear to shout at her.”
Everyone began to laugh, taking it as a joke.
Zou Yue also laughed, but her laugh was unnatural.
“Let’s go again,” she said, unable to help herself and glancing at Xia Rou.
Only Xia Rou remained unsmiling. While everyone else laughed, her eyes were lowered and she didn’t look at Wei Qi.
But Wei Qi was looking at her.
Zou Yue, watching the way Wei Qi looked at Xia Rou, felt her heart began to sink.
She shouted, “Action!” Translated by The Novelst
When Xia Rou heard her, she raised her head to look at Wei Qi.
Under the bright spotlight, the two of them looked at each other.
Wei Qi was tall and handsome. When he looked at Xia Rou, his eyes sparkled like the stars.
Other people might not have noticed, but Zou Yue had liked Wei Qi for several years. She had never seen him use that kind of gaze to look at any girl.
After she shouted “action,” they should have begun to say their lines, but in the end… the two had been staring at each other for several seconds…
The smile on Zou Yue’s face was already a little stiff.
Xia Rou took a deep breath before finally beginning to speak. “Really, it wasn’t me! How could I do such a thing?”
In the script, the cannon fodder was an evil woman who tended to disguise herself as a white lotus, her innocence and kindness all faked.
But this girl was not, thought Wei Qi.
When he walked into the rehearsal room, his first glance told her that her temperament was clean. Beautiful and pure, like a flower budding to bloom.
Yet her eyes were so passionate. With just a glance, there seemed to be indescribable feelings surging to the surface.
Why would she reveal such an expression when she saw him? There seemed to be a hint of nervousness and loss.
In the past, Wei Qi had not believed in things like love at first sight.
But now, all he hoped was that the look Xia Rou was leveling at him was the same as his on her. He had been attracted to her with just a glance. He couldn’t see anyone else or hear any other words.
When their gazes met for the first time, his eyes could only accommodate this girl that was as beautiful as a flower petal.
And when she glanced at him, would she also… also…
Wei Qi really wanted to smile widely ta her.
But he knew that if they had to stop again, then he would have definitely dragged Xia Rou down. So he had no choice but to hide those messy thoughts and focus on his lines.
He made a serious face and scolded fiercely, “Don’t you dare deceive me again! I’ve seen through your hypocritical true colors already!”
Xia Rou was just cannon fodder. She didn’t have too many lines in the script. After she finished her scene, there wasn’t much left for her to do.
But Wei Qi was different. As the main character, he was in nearly every scene. When he finally finished rehearsing, he looked around to see that Xia Rou wasn’t around anymore.
He was a little disappointed inside.
“Senior, thank you for your hard work!” Zou Yue walked to him with a glass of warm water. There was red on her cheeks, as though the room temperature was a little too high.
But that was not the case. She was only too nervous. She had been in a one-sided love with him for six years already. Every single time she spoke to him, she would be nervous.
She plucked up the courage to say, “Senior, let’s go have lunch. I’ll treat you.”
Wei Qi rejected her politely. “I still have things to do in the afternoon, so I’ll be leaving early.”
“Alright then… I’ll see you off.” Zou Yue was disappointed.
She put on her coat and walked him to the school entrance.
They spoke about the script and the rehearsal and also improvements for everyone’s acting.
The only thing they did not bring up was Xia Rou.
Wei Qi didn’t want to ask too much about it. He was barely able to hold himself back from wanting to know everything about Xia Rou, but there was still next time, or in the future. He would go and ask her personally.
There was no need to hear it from others.
Zou Yue let out a soft sigh of relief.
He bid her goodbye and got into his taxi. She stood at the school entrance, staring into the road, for some time.
On Sunday, Cao Yang went to the study to return a book. He realized Xia Rou was there, holding a cup of hot tea and leaning against the windowsill, spacing out.
The sunlight streamed through the window and illuminated the side of her face, making her look almost transparent. He could see the green blood vessels under her skin. She looked very exquisite and weak.
“What are you doing?” He used his book to tap her head.
Xia Rou almost spilled her tea. Luckily, Cao Yang was quick to react and steadied the hand holding the teacup.
“What are you spacing out for?” He furrowed his brows.
Xia Rou let out a sigh. “I’m thinking about the future.”
“The future?” Translated by The Novelst
“Mm,” she said, holding the teacup to blow the steam away softly. “Going to university, graduating, working, and then getting married.”
When Cao Yang head the words, “getting married,” he raised his eyebrows. “You’re thinking very far ahead.”
“It’s just a matter of time. Time passes in the blink of an eye,” Xia Rou said, looking at the dust drifting in the sunlight.
Indeed, time was truly the thing that sped the fastest. In just the blink of an eye, she had already been here for four years.
She raised her head and looked at Cao Yang. “I’ll have to get married sooner or later. It’s impossible for me to stay here forever.”
Cao Yang was slightly surprised.
