“Senior Mu!” A surprised voice sounded from behind her. Mu Rulan turned her head to the side to see An Zuozuo and Zhou Yaya dressed casually. An Zuozuo’s face was full of surprise. At her side, Zhou Yaya gave out a cold, glamorous aura as per usual with her eyebrows slightly furrowed, revealing a hint of dislike and loathing. She had a bag slung at her side, a cute puppet doll clipped to the top that fit her noble temperament well. It was the doll that Mu Rusen gave her for her birthday when he had clung to Mu Rulan to beg.
The cute doll had a pair of rosy cheeks with a bright smile painted on, looking so beautiful that people would fondle it with admiration.
No wonder even Zhou Yaya, with that cold personality, would carry that doll around by her side.
Mu Rulan’s smile was gentle and she greeted: “Zuozuo Tongxue*.”
*Tongxue: school mate.
An Zuozuo was flattered. “Senior Mu still remembers me?”
“Because Zuozuo is very cute.” Mu Rulan smiled as she praised her. There were some freckles on An Zuozuo’s face, but she had a pair of bright eyes. Although she wasn’t very pretty, she was indeed cute.
An Zuozuo turned a little red with shyness. Zhou Yaya noticed this and furrowed her brows: “Didn’t you say you wanted to dance?”
In this kind of situation would An Zuozuo still be able to listen to Zhou Yaya’s words? She turned her gaze to Mo Qianren, suddenly feeling like a metal being attracted to a magnet, losing all her senses while blankly staring at him.
……That man was really handsome.
However, Mo Qianren didn’t seem to notice the eyes on him, his gaze following Mu Rulan, observing the tips of her brows, corners of her mouth and even the partly visible vein on her neck.
A person’s mouth could easily deceive, but her body language wouldn’t…
However, his phone rang out suddenly. Mo Qianren picked up the call, his brows furrowed. Lu Zimeng’s wailing voice sounded from his phone, so he had no choice but to leave to rescue him.
Mo Qianren’s suspicions toward Mu Rulan didn’t shrink after this meeting, but rather deepened. The girl didn’t reveal a single flaw from the beginning to the end, but due to that a low of loopholes could be uncovered. Even a condemned prisoner would be surprised when they met his eyes, but Mu Rulan didn’t seem to feel any uneasiness when standing right beside him. There was only one possible answer: she was too good in hiding herself, so good that it was abnormal for a 16-year-old girl to be able to act so calmly, especially when she was supposed to be well-protected from her youth and be ignorant to worldly affairs.
Mu Rulan looked at Mo Qianren’s retreating figure, her perpetual smile resting on her face. There was a thick callus on his hand, at the juncture of his thumb and index finger. That indicated that this person had been using weapons like guns and scalpels for a long time. Mo Qianren huh… You’ve been following me for so long, have you found anything interesting yet? Those eyes of his were so beautiful, would it be too much of her to request them as a gift? Hehe.
An Zuozuo finally shook herself back to attention when Mo Qianren’s figure disappeared from her sight, her cheeks still a little pink. She looked at Mu Rulan with a sparkling, hopeful gaze: “Senior Mu, he is…”
The young girl was in the springtime of her youth. She didn’t think to consider that Mu Rulan and Mo Qianren could be together because Mu Rulan had always given her the impression that she wouldn’t fall easily into love. Everyone who admired her would think there were only a few people worthy of her.
Mu Rulan shook her head: “I’m not sure.”
An Zuozuo, feeling disappointed, lowered her head. Zhou Yaya couldn’t stand it anymore and turned away after an icy glance at Mu Rulan, her face frosty. An Zuozuo couldn’t say another word and immediately followed after her: “Yaya wait for me!”
Zhou Yaya… still didn’t like her, huh.
She turned around to walk to an unsupervised barbecue stall. She walked under the shadow of a tree, concealing her face in darkness.
The ingredients available were actually already prepared. Corn, chicken wings, beef, and more. These were all actually high class ingredients. Mu Rulan lowered her eyelids, skillfully turning over the food and applying sauce. The delicious smell attracted a lot of attention, shocking many when they realized it was Mu Rulan cooking.
Many little children who had followed their older siblings to the festival surrounded Mu Rulan’s stall in no time. Mu Rulan played with the kids until Mu Rusen and Mu Rulin finished having fun in the festival before they left together.
The result of the competition was announced by then: the female winner was a senior, demanding a date with an junior named Duan Yao, who was as popular as Ou Kaicheng. If Ou Kaicheng was considered an unapproachable flower, then Duan Yao was a flower spirit, a sweetheart to many in Liu Silan High School.
On the other hand, the male winner was also a senior, requesting a date with Shu Min, another influential person in Liu Silan.
It wasn’t Mu Rulan, but that was to be expected. Because if it was Mu Rulan, then it would be odd.
The boy bit on his handkerchief, he’d actually wanted to ask Mu Rulan but he couldn’t. Mu Rulan belonged to everyone in Liu Silan High School, and anybody who tried to monopolize her would end up badly.
No one knew when it had started, but no matter what event was being held, boys would always babble excitedly among themselves, wanting to invite Mu Rulan to dance. But when the day came, nobody would go up to her, as if she was being left out. However, the truth was that it was an unspoken rule – Mu Rulan belonged to everyone, like an idol. Nobody could monopolize her, not even the girls.
Mu Rulan was the real number one bigshot at Liu Silan, her exclusive fan club members numbered over half the students in the whole school.
When Mu Rulan and her brothers arrived home, they heard pealing laughter in the house. Bai Suqing was sitting in the living room with Ke Wanqing and Mu Zhenyang. Who knew what she told them, making the two elders laugh happily aloud.
In that instant, Bai Suqing turned around to look proudly at Mu Rulan. Anything she wanted, she seemed to say with that gaze, including your parents, she would be able to steal.
Mu Rulan pulled a gentle smile onto her face, as if she didn’t notice the pride in Bai Suqing’s gaze, “Dad, mom, we’ve returned.”
Ke Wanqing immediately stood to walk to Mu Rulan. Bai Suqing’s expression was stiff, she had been talking smoothly till just then. She tried to comfort herself.
Wasn’t it normal? They have lived with their daughter for 16 years, and these people weren’t the same as those families overseas who let their children be independent from an early age. So of course she wouldn’t be able to steal them overnight. She needed to be calm, there was still a long way to go.
It was already past ten, and everyone sat in the living room for a while listening to Mu Rusen talking in high spirits about how amazing Mu Rulan’s performance was in the festival. Ke Wanqing and Mu Zhenyang were surprised and proud to learn that Mu Rulan was called over to talk with people from the capital. They started to have some thoughts, thinking to arrange for Mu Rulan to attend this or that university.
Bai Suqing’s fingernails bit deeply into her palm. She realized if she wanted to deal with Mu Rulan, she would need to confront the people in the Mu and Ke families, but might also involve those high authorities she couldn’t afford to offend. The people from the upper class had Mu Rulan within their sight… It wasn’t easy to deal with them. Or should she say that the smart ones would know to avoid Mu Rulan if possible. But then… her position in the Mu and Ke families, she needed to steal it away…
Now, what should she do next…
Bai Suqing was in a bad mood, so her expression wasn’t the best. She went upstairs to rest early while Mu Rulan stayed inside the study room to explain the events of the day to Mu Zhenyang and Ke Wanqing, after which she went to bed.
